Modern language teaching standards recommend, in addition to the usual learning levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2), a preliminary level for languages with alphabet systems other than Latin. Learners learn the alphabet of the language, as well as various vocabulary and phrases. At Aladin School, this preliminary level is called Alif . In learning level 1 (Alif ), students learn the entire Arabic alphabet—that is, all Arabic letters and their forms, temporarily written with phonetic transcription, alongside phrases. These two tracks run parallel until shortly before the end of this learning level, when they discover they can read and write everything in Arabic script that they had previously only written phonetically.
